Wellington is New Zealand's capital city and is a cultural location home to the national museum, Te Papa. Wellington boasts a fantastic nightlife and world-class shopping. Its central district can compete with New York for the most number of restaurants and cafes per head. North of Wellington is the Hutt Valley - an exciting area for outdoor pursuits such as bushwalking, fishing and mountain biking. The city is situated between green hills and an impressive harbour. It is only 2km in width, so is accessible and easy to explore. Described as the arts and culture capital of New Zealand, Wellington houses many theatres, galleries, museums and the New Zealand Arts Festival that takes place every two years. Being the capital, Wellington is also home to the country's Parliament buildings for visitors to learn more about the government and history of New Zealand. Nature lovers are also provided for with the New Zealand fur seal colony, Scorching Bay and Makara Peak.
