Canterbury

Canterbury's varying landscape ranges from the moutain peaks of the Southern Alps to stunning coastal beaches. The area encompasses nine different districts and its major city; Christchurch. The highest peak of the region is also the heighest in New Zealand - Aoraki Mount Cook stands at a towering 3754 metres. Cantebury is a district ideal for nature lovers, with its idyllic beaches on the Banks Peninsula in the east, the impressove Southern Alps to the west, forest and the whale-watching centre of Kaikoura in the north and to the south is the Waitiki River - ideal for fishing, whitewater rafting and other watersports. Mount Hutt is the most popular ski area in Canterbury and also offers jet boating, fishing, horse riding, and golf.
