Hokitika

Hokitika is situated on the west coast of the south island beside the Tasman Sea and has a great view of Mount Cook and the Southern Alps. From Hokitika, the South Westland World Heritage National Park can be explored as can the Arahura River - a natural greenstone source and an area of great significance for the Maori people. Within Hokitika, several shops sell beautiful greenstone jewellrey which makes a great holiday souvenir. A short journey south of Hokitika are Lake Kaniere and Lake Mahinapua - surrounded by bushland and snowy mountains making them ideal locations for watersports, swimming, skiing, sailing and camping.
