Marlborough
Marlborough is situated on the north east corner of the South Island. It has long been renowned as a secure harbour for travellers since the days of the European explorers such as Captain James Cook and Durmont D'Urville. Malborough enjoys a sunny climate all-year-round, making it an ideal destination for walks, bike rides, sea kayaking, and wine tasting in one of the local vineyards. The area is internationally renowned for its Sauvignon Blanc, and is New Zealand's largest wine producing area with around 65 wineries and 290 grape growers. Malborough Sounds are sunken valleys within the region containing waterways and forests that are home to penguins, dolphins, seals and native birds.
