Mount Cook

Mount Cook is also referred to as Aoraki the Cloud Piercer, and is the highest mountain in New Zealand. It is situated deep within the Southern Alps, and is renowned as the ultimate adventure destination in this country of extreme sports. The Mount Cook National Park has been awarded 'World Heritage' status in light of 7,000 hectares of alpine surroundings - one thrid of which is permanently snow covered. The park also contains 22 of the 27 peaks over 10,000 feet in New Zealand. A wide variety of unique and rare plant and wildlife live near the mountain, including the Mount Cook Lily, the kea mountian parrot, the yellow-breasted tomtit and the native pigeon.
